Santa Monica: Small Jet Crashes After Landing

Written By Unknown on Senin, 30 September 2013 | 22.56

A private jet has crashed into the hangar of Santa Monica Airport shortly after landing, bursting into flames and killing all people on board.

Officials said there could be no survivors after the twin-engine Cessna Citation veered off the runway and hit the hangar, which also caught fire and collapsed.

The number of people on board was unclear, but the jet holds up to eight passengers and two crew members, according to officials.

"This was an unsurvivable crash," Santa Monica Fire Department Captain John Nevandro said.

Rescuers and investigators have been working at the scene amid the smouldering wreckage.

The jet had taken off from Hailey, Idaho, and landed in Santa Monica on Sunday evening.

The blaze caused minor damage to two other buildings and destroyed the hangar.

The neighbourhoods surrounding the airport are densely populated and officials said that, had the plane not hit the hangar, it would have likely slammed into homes.

The airport in Hailey serves Idaho's Sun Valley resort area, which is a frequent destination for many celebrities.
