A lockdown at a US Army base was prompted by a female soldier who turned the gun on herself, the military says.
The unnamed suspect fired one shot, wounding herself, at Fort Lee Army base in central Virginia.
No one else was injured, the Army said in a press release.
The base is one of the US Army's largestThe base was temporarily placed on lockdown as police surrounded the scene, a four-storey building that is the headquarters for the Army's Combined Arms Support Command.
But the all-clear was soon given.

The base is about 25 miles (40km) south of Richmond and 100 miles (160km) south of Washington.
According to the military's website, Fort Lee is the third-largest training site in the Army, with a daily population of about 34,000, including members from all branches, their families, civilians and contractors.
